Ties are unfortunately placed in the worst spot for spillage. So if you happen to drag your tie through the soup, here's how to clean it.
For light stains, immediately dab with soda water (cool tap water will do in a pinch). Never rub. When you get home, hand-wash with a gentle detergent, such as Woolite.
For oily stains, throw on some talcum powder and let it absorb overnight. Then hand-wash with a gentle detergent.
If all else fails, pay a visit to the dry cleaner. Never put a tie in the washing machine, because even the gentlest cycle is too rough.
