What do your home and your wardrobe have in common? (Well, other than the fact that your wardrobe is in your home?) They’re both reflections of your personal style. Through style, we have the ability to express ourselves, whether it’s in the way we get dressed or in the way we decorate our homes.
Style tells our story. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce that we’ve partnered with CB2, the modern consumer's destination for apartment, home and office, to celebrate all things style. With the Live Your Style partnership, we’ll be exploring seasonal trends in fashion and interior design throughout the year, with inspiration on bringing both to life in your home and in your wardrobe.
We kicked off our collaboration the best way we could think of: inviting CB2 Interiors, the brand's virtual room design program that uses real stylists, to make over a few rooms at our Chicago headquarters. Inspired by our building’s industrial vibe, they outfitted the space with sleek, modern furnishings that added warmth, comfort, and of course, style. (And yes, they’ll be coming back each season to redecorate!)
It was during that process that we really started thinking about how symbiotic home and fashion are. In fact, we kind of nerded out on it. We decided to conduct a survey of 2,000 Americans, asking them about their perspectives on clothing and home decor. We discovered some pretty interesting tidbits:
So whether you’re decorating your dream space or curating the perfect wardrobe, it generally requires the same thought process and attention to detail. To learn how to truly live your style, we’ve outlined three easy rules to help you get started.
- Begin with the essentials.
Think about the pieces that you’ll be using regularly, like a couch or a great pair of pants. Since these pieces will serve as the building blocks of your decor or wardrobe, take into consideration factors that are important to you, such as materials, functionality, or comfort.
- Invest in the pieces you love.
Whether you’re debating over spending on a great leather jacket or striking wall art, ask yourself: is it something you foresee yourself having for a long time? Is it a classic piece you’ll get a lot of use out of? And more importantly, is it something that sparks joy? If the answer to all these questions is yes, then it’s probably time to commit.
- Play with the details.
While accessories and accent decor are typically reserved for the end of the process, they can create the biggest impact by bringing it all together. Showcase your personality and create balance through the use of varying textures, pops of color, and bold patterns.
