Activewear That Works as Hard as You
Let’s close out 2018 and begin 2019 looking sharp. Yes, we’re talking about New Year’s Eve. Right now, an invite is on your calendar for a blowout event, and do you know what you’re wearing? A suit is a given on a night this special, but it should be anything but standard. Our stylist, Brittni, is helping you figure out which options best fit your personal style for the night’s vibe.
If you’re the kind of guy who loves making an entrance, then leave the grey and navy at home. A suit in a holiday color such as plum, emerald, or maroon is a cool take on a classic. Bonus points if you snag one with a pattern. And since your suit is likely to steal the spotlight, Brittni recommends keeping everything else pretty subtle. A crisp white shirt, toned-down silk tie, and classic leather shoes put a nice little bow on the whole look.
Have you ever thought about swapping a dress shirt for a turtleneck? If not, give it a try. “A turtleneck maintains the same level of sophistication, while also being festive and warm,” Brittni says. And when you don’t have a collar, there’s no need to figure out a tie or bowtie. Just tuck a complementary-colored pocket square into the jacket, and you’re good to party the night away. To go the extra mile, match your socks to your pocket square.
For ultra-elegant New Year’s Eve plans requiring a step above your standard suiting, a dinner jacket with all the tuxedo trappings is a great option. Here, Brittni chose a deep blue jacket and black tuxedo trousers. “Navy and black make the classiest combo,” she says. Want to turn it up a notch? Go velvet. It’s a luxurious fabric that makes a statement on its own. If you want to set the volume at max capacity, swap out a leather shoe for a dapper velvet loafer.
